Bill! Hi there! It's REALLY good to hear from you. I'm getting back more active this year. Last winter, Karen suggested that I get my plane flying _whatever_the_cost_ and do the health things to get my medical back. She wanted me to do the health things so I wouldn't die. (Selfish of her, huh?) Well, I got back to exercising. I determined conclusively that my knees couldn't continue running as I had previously done and switched to speed walking. I improved my blood sugars (For the lurkers, I've got Type II diabetes.) and got my HbA1c down from 12 in mid winter to 9.x in mid spring to 8.5 in early summer to 7.1 in late summer. As far as I can tell, those numbers can't be higher than two above the normal range of the lab. I figured that the 8.5 was marginal so I went for one more reading to nail it. However, everything else hit the fan. Karen had to spend hundreds of hours to reactivate her pharmacist license because she's changing back to that career field. I found lots of continuing education courses through searching the web. I did LOTS of child care, errands, meals and, to top it all, work needed 10-18 hours of overtime a week. When I'm stressed, I eat. My November reading was way high. This got my attention again. Since the day I got my latest HbA1c result, my behavior has been strictly correct and my home test machine numbers have been VERY good. Still, it may now take six more months for two good readings (which must be three months apart). Last spring, I paid LOTS of money for John Wright Sr. (with lots of work from John, Jr.) to get my plane annualed and completely airworthy. I have only flown it a few hours since it's so much fuss to schedule an instructor to go with me. When I get more back in practice, I'll just shanghai a licensed pilot to be pilot in command (the insurance policy is written to allow this). Sure sorry I didn't get to see you at the Nationals last summer, Bill. I really don't want to wait till next July 4th weekend to visit again. Till later, -- Ed Burkhead East Peoria, Ill.
