I've been in the EOC for a year now and appreciate the information and
sharing. I use a wheelchair and am trying to get back into flying after
30
something years. I explained all this when I joined EOC last year and a
number of EOC members have encouraged me and taken interest in my
progress.

I acquired a private license in the mid-60's (95 hrs in a club Ercoupe)
but
haven't flown since about 1966 when I moved and no longer had access to
the
club coupe. I retired from the federal government in 1995 and moved to
Orlando. I'm active in the local EAA chapter.

I'm waiting to hear from FAA in Oklahoma City re outcome of my third class
medical. It's now been at least 10 weeks since my I submitted the last
medical tests required by OK City. In the meantime I'm trying to locate
the Ercoupe that Howard Treadwell (used a wheelchair, probably now
deceased) that was modified with a door in its side. Recently Jack
Compere
in Oregon gave me color photos of the plane (N87292). He'd tracked it to
Texas. I called the Terrel, TX, airport and learned that someone there
had
had a plane with a door but a different N number than N87292. Terrel said
the owner had sold it and the new owner had crashed it and was dead.

I searched the website Landings and found N87292 registered to a Barry
Coppage in Houston, TX, in July 1995. I wrote about two weeks ago but
haven't heard anything.

Could there have been more than one coupe modified with a door? I doubt
it, but can't explain two different N numbers. Presumably Howard
Treadwell
only got field approval, not an STC.

I'm aware that Ed Burkhead recently responded to someone who also
interested in the coupe with the door for the benefit of a disabled
passenger.

I continue interested in the coupe because I don't relish the thought of
learning to use a rudder hand control on another aircraft, but access to
the coupe is the major problem with it.

I'm interested in getting some David Clarke headphones and someone on the
coupers list recently referred to a site that offered the best price.

Thanks to all who've shown continuing interest and support.
