Everyone is right, here.

E-mail *is* a pretty awkward forum for the mass distrubution of
really large digital material, to be utilized as a sort of
last resort.

It should be noted that many companies' firewalls now 'bounce'
e-mail with attachments that aren't plain text, or trim off
the attachments. That's for security reasons. It's non-negotiable,
and a real pain in the patoot. You can't even send an MS-Word
document to them.

Since there are a number of us here with access to web servers,
anyone who'd like to go to the effort of digitizing something
interesting would be best advised to send a note to the list
like:

'I've got this neat article/photo that I'd like to share,
but no web site to share it on. I've gotten permisson from
the author and scanned it in. If someone can put it up
on their site for a while, I'll e-mail you a zip acrchive
of the scans and a copy of the author's written permission.'

At that point a couple of us come forward and say, 'hey, I'll
do it.' We put it up and send out a message with a link to the
site.

Then anyone who wants it, gets it. Anyone who doesn't, doesn't.
It only has to be stored in one place. Everyone is happy.

Greg
