<< Heh. I belonged to the Civil Air Patrol for awhile. They wanted me to wear an official flight suit and big flying boots when I flew a 172, even on local flights. I nearly ran off the runway once because of those big boots. I looked so silly getting out of the plane with that suit on. I quit soon thereafter :-) --Steve >> I was in the ARMY in 61 to 64 and one time a student busted up an L-19 (an O-1 to you youngins) and almost was killed because his boot was wedged/jammed between the rudder pedal and the firewall. The A/C caught on fire and the injured student pilot was hurt badly. He couldn't get his foot out of his boot and he couldn't get the boot loose. It's been over 30 years since that time and I can't remember the exact outcome but it was pretty bad. Flying suits and Nomex gloves can save your life in a fire but boots don't do a lot for you. Believe it or not, synthetic blended underwear can kill you in a fire under your fireproof flight suit. The ARMY learned that the hard way. kim 2523H KUKF
