Howdy, `coupers. The October issue of the Coupe Capers was in the mail when I picked it up this afternoon. One part caught my eye - US Airplane Numbers. I looked up a production chart from "A Touch of Class" and "The Ercoupe" to compare.
Mfg'r US Airplanes Production The Ercoupe
Coupe Capers Touch of Class by Thomas
ERCO 1688 4931 5028
Forney 107 138 182
Alon 225 241 245
Mooney 58 106 118
So, either there are a lot of Ercoupes in barns, or they
got splattered over a hillside. You gotta remember that
ERCO left the business in 1950, after selling its inventory
to Sanders a plane at a time. Thus, they would have the
highest attrition rate. But maybe that is not all the
answer. It is also interesting to note that over 80% of
all varients were manufactured in 1946 and 1947!
Let us treasure every one of those that remain.
