Last week I replaced the cylinders on my engine with 4 Millenium
cylinders.
The exhaust gasket supplied with the new cylinders is the stamped metal
gasket
commonly used today replacing the copper-asbestos gasket previously used.
The
exhaust pipe was warped and rough causing a leak which pointed to the
spark
plug resulting in problems. The cure is to take the pipe to an automotive
machine shop with the belt sander used to flatten cylinder heads. There
should be enough metal to resurface the pipe once before you need to takke
more drastic action. Some machine shops use a tool which requires that
the
cylinder be clamped to a table and a tool moved over it. They cannot help
you
but they will know who has the kind of equipment you need. If you feel
that
the surfacing treetment leaves the metal too thin then you have the choice
of
bying a new pipe for $230 or buying a new flange for a few dollars and
having
it welded on top of your existing flange and then having the assembly
ground
flat again. I have also heard of people using furnace cement as a gasket
dressing but my inclination would be to try to make the assembly right in
the
first place.
Good luck, Bob Condon
