Dennis,

The fuel tank end that slumps down with this failure falls toward the
pilots
knees.  The bracket that attaches to the firewall is a much better design
and holds this smaller end of the tank just fine.  As the tank slumps
down,
the filler neck rests against the rubber grommet in the top engine cowling
and prohibits a complete fall but this is one of two cutouts that the tank
filler passes through.  My filler neck shows some signs of wear in making
contact with the lower skin below the cowling.

Is your tank 'moving' when the fuel load changes?
