Well, the cylinders are off.  Noticed lots of oil in two of them, lots of
ring wear, no scoring of the walls though.  Lots of oil and buildup in the
intake ports, and on the intake valve stem.  Not sure if that's where most
of the oil is coming from or not.

Oh, another funny thing.  The mixture control was binding in a way that
made it feel as if the cable was bottoming out correctly, but in fact it
was flexing and the mixure control was only going about 2/3 of the way to
full rich.  Gee, I wonder if THAT had anything to do with the over temp
situation.  

Looks like good news in the bottom end.  No detectable galling or pitting
of the cam lobes or followers.
