Coupers
My 1946, Mod.415D (formally a Mod.C), just came out of ANNUAL. One
of the
things fixed was a leaking fuselage fuel tank. I still have a strong gas
odor but can not find any more leaks. I HAVE found that the right wing
tank
gage sight tube is broken (inside the cabin). Since the tank is vented
with
a hole in the front of the gas cap it pressurizes the tank and the fumes
may be blowing out of the broken tube into the cockpit.
I have called Skyport services as well as Univair and the tubes
are no
longer available. It is broken pretty bad and has been cemented before.
Does anyone out there have one or know where I can get one? It is
about
ten inches long, is flanged at the bottom end with four screw holes in the
flange, it is about 5/8 inch outside diameter, appears to be made of
Plexiglass and is calibrated: 1/4, 1/2 and full. It mounts inside the
right
side of the cockpit and attaches directly to the side of the right wing
tank. The wire with the cork attached (that goes inside) is still in good
shape.
If I can't find one I will remove the float and cap the opening
with a
plate and a gasket.Jack G.(U42)Utah N103JF, SN:745
