The FAA has issued a Special Airworthiness
Information Bulletin to alert owners/operators of certain Teledyne
Continental Motors (TCM) about the distribution of unapproved magneto
drive gears.

"These magneto drive gears were distributed and/or
manufactured by Fresno Airparts Company and were found to have
deficient material properties," the FAA said in a bulletin. "Fresno
Airparts Company was not authorized by the FAA to manufacture these
parts."

This information is valuable to anyone who operates
one of the below listed engines, the agency said, "because of the
possibility of magneto drive gear failure which could result in engine
failure and possible forced landing."

in
nature and not mandated by regulation.
