Recently, I have noticed a strange thing on pre-flight. On draining the wing sumps, I always get a little condensation water - now that water is dark green.....I have been using Amoco Ultimate 93 Oct Auto fuel for 8 years or so - ever since Auto fuel was STC'd through EAA. An occasional 100LL tank full when off field.
Have I picked up the algae prroblem that affects jet fuel ???? That certainly is what it looks like, thought I have not looked at the green stuff under a microscope. I also am experiencing the green stuff - pasty - on the fuel tank cap clips. When it drys, it becomes a dry powder, that can be scrapped off the cap clips. I sent info to Amoco Technical, along with samples and photos - They were not interested - or so it seems - and only replied ~ we don't know, and returned the sample and pictures without any other comment. The question is - How do you get rid of the algae? (if it is algae). Is it suitable to add "Prist" to the fuel, or some other algacide? I drained the tanks, washed them out with fresh fuel, and refilled them with 100LL. I saved the old fuel - Amoco Ultimate 93 Octane - and put it in my autos. Have I now contaminated the auto fuel system also??? Would appreciate any thoughts or similar experiences/cures. Fly Safe - Have Fun Harry Francis 93530 BCB
