Here's one for the group. Some folks, (Hanger Pilots, myself included), were sitting around the hangers over the weekend discussing things that are important to the world, like airplanes, landings and such.
Several things came out of this days brain storming:
First:
We need is a better way to rate landings. The
score cards we hold up now should be replaced
with a score board like the football fields use...:-).
Think the FAA would help pay for such a necessary
piece of equipment?
Second:
Since installing the new AWOS the weather has gotten
worse at the airport. Density Alt. has definitely increased.
Use to always be 1,700 feet - airport elevation - now
can go to 4,000 feet on a hot day.
Third:
During this, we, they, were talking of the olden day's
of x country, staying at the airport, sleeping under the
wing, great stuff like that.
We would like to compile a list of airports that will
still allow this, and have something to offer. The
coupe list seems like a great place to start.
If anyone out there can give us some info on a good
place to visit. A place that is not controlled by
fences, would allow camping on the field,
safe - no need to worry about waking up and
looking like some one from a Friday 13th movie.
Would you send me the info. Looking at maybe
a caravan of planes traveling to some of these
places during the summer.
Really interested in the Ozark's, Great Lakes, Fla and
East Coast. But we also would like to try some in
the Mid West and West.
