On my plane, there was corrosion on the lower spar cap about three
inches inboard of the right main gear. This is the piece that is flush
with the lower skin and runs from the gear to the fuselage.

About 8 years ago, someone removed a 3/4 inch wide by 1+1/4 inch long
section of the lower spar cap. Has anyone heard of this being done? Does
anyone know if this is 'legal'?

Does anyone know what would be involved in replacing the lower spar cap?
As I remember, it is about 12 inches long. I believe it could be
replaced by removing the tank and the skin directly behind the spar cap.
>From what I can see with a light mirror and magnifying glass, the
corrosion is only in the bottom of the spar cap, it has not migrated up
into the main spar.
