The really sad thing about the FAA is that they really believe that they are enhancing safety. There is little I fear more than the FAA, and their associated agencies. Flight service is right in there. Years ago when a young pilot I was actually foolish enough to get my weather briefings from them. Several really scary X-countries later I switched to the local TV. The weather channel was a God send. On one X-country a few years ago we stopped into a FSS station that was located on the field, while trying to get an idea of what was going on , (the weather was really bad) the guy in FSS finally looked up and said, "if you really want the picture go into the back there and we have the weather channel on". That saved our butts
