Tom,

Great idea.
There is an apparent need to ask and answer questions particular to the
Ercoupe.

It is one of the world's wonders - and a very special machine. However
there
still remains mis-understandings about how they fly in a co-ordinated
manner
without the need for rudder pedals; landing in crosswinds; loosing
altitude
when you're too high on final, etc.

There even is a need to educate CFIs on how an Ercoupe is flown and how
they
perform. Once educated, all I have met are amazed at how well such an old
bird
performs. It's interesting to learn that DC-8s land in a cross wind like
Ercoupes do - (As I understand it they can' t land wing low, or they take
off
an engine.)

Note: Be careful when describing to a new CFI just how a coupe lands. I
demonstrated X-wind landings to a young CFI and expressed the need to land
in
a three point position (meening to me tail low, landing on the mains). He
observed several landing I did, then I gave the controls to him for a
landing.
His picture of a three point landing was touching down on all three gears
at
once; so just as we were about to touch down on the mains in a crab, he
dumped
the nose ! Wow ! I caught it quickly, but we still hit pretty hard and
bounced
- made two landings that day. Didn't hurt anything, but my and his pride.
Just
shows you that the language we use and understanding of the words can be
different.... I blame myself for not being clear enough to him and the use
of
"three Point Position" - which means tail dragger to me, but tricycle gear
to
him..

I have rambled too much over these last few days....but if it helps anyone
better understand this wonderful machine, then I am pleased.

I would be happy to help someone create such a listing.

Fly Safe - Have Fun !

Regards,
Harry
