I like the idea of a hat with the word "Couper" or the picture of a Coupe on it. Orange makes sense, and I look bad enough in any hat that orange wouldn't make it any worse. But lots of people like to express their individuality with their hat colors, etc. I also suspect it would be virtually impossible to get everyone a hat of the same type in less than 6-12 months. I think we may have to resort to the label or pin on the hat of choice, or the T-shirt that designates the Coupers. I think the use of forum tent #1 at 12 Noon is also a good idea. Beats pot-luck on hats at a distance. I think Coupers should all get a hat with a Coupe, or Couper, on it regardless of the color. Or maybe make it purple--not a lot of purple hats and others do use orange a lot. The Ercoupe Owners Club has a club patch for $3. Maybe every one should just get one sewn on their hat of choice.
Re the suggestion that there might be some conflict between the Coupe Owners Club and the mailing list group: I think most of the mailing list members are also members of the Club, or should be, and so there should not be any conflict. Since aviators are often independent individuals, there will always be some difference of opinion on almost any subject, thank goodness. I think the email list is a great adjunct to the Coupe Capers monthly magazine. Sometimes the info passed through the mailing list should be repeated in Coupe Capers for those that are not on-line. Certainly anything I pass on can be lifted by Skip Carden and his staff and re-printed. Maybe we can get a hat generated through the Coupe Owners Club. Does anyone have contact with Mary Lou, the supply officer for the Club? Does she need a "start-up" fund to order a hundred or so hats? If so, perhaps the online coupers with an interest in having a standard hat for recognition purposes would place advance orders with Mary Lou. Any thoughts? Ken Doyle Springfield, Mo Alon 5477E
