In reply to recent questions about the mixture control on Coupes and the C85, my coupe had the mixture control. According to my mechanic it regulates air into the carb rather than regulating fuel to accomplish the mixture control. He also told me to leave it alone at full rich for my type of flying (usually below 5000') Later a C140 pilot at our airport tried an adjustment of his on a local flight and it killed the engine for an off field landing. (I should say cow field landing) After he got the engine running, he flew back to the airport and wired the mixture control. My mechanic removed my control knob and wired mine at the next annual. In most cases I guess this is a primative control of mixture, at best.
