Charles;
Its best to replace the old AN style unit with a more up to date and
smaller
unit. Instead of buying a pig in a poke, he should contact any one of the
major instrument rebuilders that are in Trade-A-Plane and buy an o/h'd
one.
It'll cost him about 225 or so, already certificated and yellow tagged.
Sometimes we get into the habit of trying to save 20 or 30 bucks and end
up
taking 16 to 20 hours doing it. I can tell you that its true, because
when I
redid my coupe, I was the cheapest son of a gun going. It always turned
out
that I really didn't save anything.  Good Luck;
Al
