Hello Coupers I have a Continental C-85-12 engine that blows oil out the crankcase vent and ends up dripping off the Coupe's belly. If I fill it to the 4 qt level it will be down 1 qt after flying for an hour. If I fill it to the 3 qt level it will take almost 3 hrs of flying to use a qt. When it gets down around the 2 qt level the oil pressure starts fluctuating between 15 and 30 PSI, which is not only scary I'm sure it doesn't do the engine any good. The compression checks from 72 to 77 on all cylinders.
I found an Air/Oil separator in the Aircraft Spruce Catalog. It has no
moving parts and passes the crankcase vent line through a metal can with a
baffle inside and then drains the oil back into the crankcase with the
remainder passing out the vent line, through the lower cowl. This sounded
like a possible solution until I called the manufacturer, Walker
Engineering Enterprises, and found they no longer make them for aircraft.
Does anyone out there know of any devices made for this purpose? Or does
anyone have any suggestions for helping with this oil loss problem? I
can't
afford an engine rebuild. Asking for a miracle?
