Let's see: A-65-E Continental..new crank (tapered) std pistons..New
fabric wings done a few months ago to meet dumb AD..holes put in but not
cut..(hoping to avoid cutting fabric for quite a while with help of A&P
who agrees ad was dumb. No pedals nor do I approve of adding..its cheap
but potentially a problem..McCauley 52(?)or 54 cant remember whichx
74..the 74 is handy on 65 hp, I think NOT approved for 85 because of
highter rpm..65 redline is 2300..have flown with thestandard 85
recommended 72? and is a noticeable difference.
No landing lights as is non-electric (ALL prewars were) I use rechargable
Loran (Azure) KX-99, and battery operated cans and intercom..(I also have
a 12 volt UNAUTHORIZED lawn and garden battery I use for long cross
countries etc, however the loran will operate 100 hours or so on a
charge..kx99 about 8 or ten..cans months.
Wings are wired for lights just because we had them open, and before ad
rewiring would have been a chore..at one time was operated with strobe,
but tho I have all logs back to WW2 no mention..(suspect it was similar
to my garden tractor battery.)
New cushions double set..(small kid couldnt see over dash)
Diana gold (sorta butterscotch yellow..milder than cub yellow, coser
tobeige w/black stripes.
Old Hayes brakes work but aregetting pricey as is outrageously priced
800x4 tires tubes..considering conversion to 600x6 with Cleveland
brakes..about 600 bucks. (The damned tires and tubes in 4" are about $450
to $600!! For about the same you would get clevelands and inexpensive
readily available 6"ers.)
Have hand and auto tow bars, and some misc parts and spares.
dash is workable but sloppy looking..best to make a project and replace
with neew aluminum sheet..instruments have been moved, I mounted
loran..not ez with fuel tank behind dash..is ok but detracts from
appearance.
pair of external antennae for handheld which I use with
headphones..(NECESSARY..LOUD)and for loran.
impulse coupling on both (eisemann) mags...easy two finger hand prop..I
had never hand propped and was apprehensive but this setup is ez and safe
enough that my youngun propped when he was 9..over 1500 starts usually
(99% of time) squirt of primer...turn over four blades with throttle
cracked..turn on both mags..pull six inches from horizontal and it
humms..I have the prop one bolt ahead of inm line with crank which puts
compression at mid chest level.
Have fashioned an extra slider for a sunscreen about 10" movable to
protect thinning hair;-)
airspeed is optimistic..shows about 110 at cruise...actually 100..cruises
at low 90s fairly frugally..I can break under 4 gph with ease at over
85mph ..I run auto gas with an additive..also have a 13 gallon tank for
fueling with a high speed holley electric fuel pump..fill 21 gallons in
about 5 minutes from pickup.
