Well with pencil and paper in hand to take good notes I took my Stromberg
carb all apart tonight (my wife even let me do it on the kitchen table!)
and
was pretty impressed with how simple the device is. Noticed that the
needle
has a black rubber tip on it that has a groove worn around it where it
sits
in the seat. Pretty sure this is what's causing things to leak.

I was looking through TAP and noticed a desription for a SA3 carb overhaul
kit that has a steel needle and seat and its for auto/100 octane so maybe
auto gas with alcohol in it can eat or soften the black rubber tip?
Speculation on my part but it seems to make sense.

Anywho, I'm going to order the overhaul kit and put it together under the
supervision of my IA and see if that stops the leak. I've also heard that
the Blow Pruff gaskets are the ticket (the Independence Coupe guru even
said
that it is about impossible to keep the thin steel ones from leaking, *now
he tells me!*) so I'll get a set of those as well.

Getting a good education. For all you Coupe owners that don't like to (or
are nervous to) do your own maintenance you should really look into it.
Under the proper supervision of your IA it's actually lots of fun learning
the "guts" of your plane plus it makes you feel *much* more comfortable
with
what's being done.

Keep em flying!
