Your moves were very simliar to what I did and the coupe ran great on the ground after landing. You may have seen by now that the mixture control is a disc with several holes drill into it. As you change mixture the disc moves to a new hole to goveren air/fuel. If the hole is clogged you began to run lean. By putting carb heat ON you thin the air and run a little richer. Sure isn't a good feeling. I don't think the engine will die, but you will loose power. Some, if not most coupes, haves the mixture wired into the rich prosition. This, while maybe a good ideal, will prevent you from moving the mixture while in flight. If you could have moved the mixture and selected another hole in the disc you would probally have regained power. I recon a person should clean the carb out every ten to fifteen years. It was probally that long since mine had been cleaned. I'm putting the mixture control back in place. Just a little more to play with. Just got to remember not to pull it out for carb heat.
