Geez, there's more opinions out there on carb needles than there are
Stombergs it seems! Every person I talk to tells me something
differet. Some swear by Delrin, others by steel (lapping in
carefully), and most others say you can't stop a Stromberg from
leaking. Geez!
I did a search and found the following email. Anybody happen to know
Claude or how to get a hold of him? I tried to find a phone number
and even looked up the N number but the aircraft is now owned by a
gent in the Great Lakes area and he didn't know this fellow (figured
he was part owner in the plane with the guy he bought the plane
from.)
Thanks!

hello all
A year ago roughly on a normal sat at my home field a bunch of us
with
strombergs got into a discussion about our leaks. After a bit our
local a/p
i/a got into the discussion. He found our black cloud that we were
standing
under amusing and proceeded to announce that he'd order the parts
and fix
"every last one" of our carbs. He was met with sneer's etc because
we had
all accepted the inevitable... So he upped the bet... if it DID NOT
STOP
LEAKING it was for free... (mans got nerve) so all 5 of us took him
up on
it. One year later and over 390 total hours (275 of my own) still
no
leaks.
My total cost was 92 bucks and some were cheaper. The parts are
available
and they will stop leaking. Bottom line is (with egg on my face)
the
carbs
can be repaired and it's not that expensive so PLEASE don't assume
you have
to put up with a leak.
