Hi All You Happy Folks:
Well since no one else is going to give an account of the Marysville
event, I guess I will crawl away from my death bed and give it a try. My
excuse is a hernia operation right after I returned home. And, yes I
think I will live after all, or at least until I can make the flight to
Terrell, TX, this summer!
At any rate to get back to Marysville, the weather sort of
cooperated. It was a little hazy Saturday morning with about 4 miles
down low but much better at altitude. Bob Erwin flew down from Cameron
Park up near Placerville. Then Ted Lechner flew in from way down
Sacramento way. Joe Chitty and Bea drove over from Napa and Hartmut Beil
flew up from San Martin down south of San Jose. We held a high level
meeting and decided that food was in order, so headed out in search of
an appropriate establishment. Shortly after returning to the airport
Patty & Steven Stewart and our exalted leader Bob Caspary arrived from
the south land. We later found out that Jack Russell & Steve Shuck had
gotten a late start from the Fresno area and had turned back due to time
constraints and previous commitments. Also Ed Exley had headed out from
Corona in the Los Angles area but had to turn back due to a fuel leak
from the sight tube in the right hand wing tank.
After much long winded cussing and discussing, etc., etc. We retired
to Buzz Dolim's Abode for adult beverages and hors d'oeuvres (except for
Hartmut who insisted on flying back after dinner so only tea for him)
and more lies, ........er'r stories! When everyone had had their fill we
headed for Buzz's favorite road house for a great meal.
Saturday morning we all got together and headed out to the NCO club
at Beal Air force Base as Sergeant Dolim's guests for a very nice all
you could force down breakfast with real table cloths and fancy serving
dishes and made to order omelets and and and. Suffice it to say a very
enjoyable meal, thanks Buzz. After breakfast we did a quick tour with
the highlight being the SR-71 Blackbird. We were able to walk right up
and touch it and look in anywhere we wanted. There was also one of the
small drones that were capable of more than mach 4.
Then it was back to MYV to say good bye and send the long distance
travelers on their way home. A great time was had by all of us, I just
wish more of you could have made it.
