Paul did touch on spring length and tension. Note: the height of the inner cylinder showing. The height should be 3 1/2 inches. Oil level in the cylinder would have no bearing as the airplane is sitting on the taxi spring. I think Bob said something about the nose sticking up or down. Here you would need to do a quick lift and drop test to see where the airplane settles at. Also a good walk around includes a wiping of the inner cyl that shows. Dirt an grim raise hell with rubber O-rings Paul's best comment ((to my way of thinking) "just good common sense." ===================================================================== Well guys, I told you I would forward my Ercoupe Guru's reply. This was always a pet peeve of his,** **He didn't hit on the servicing, but I'm sure it's slipped his mind. Believe me, it was drilled into my head when I first got the coupe.** ====================================================================== Interesting ideas these fellas have but none seem to understand the rigging (as with wt. and bal.)is really done with the aircraft on level ground and the spacers inserted to bring the aircraft to level when the empty wt.& bal criteria has been met. Level being determined by leveling at the cockpit combing rails along the window sides (both for and aft and wing spanwise). This accommodates different; nose gear and spring lengths, spring tensions, donut or Bellevue spacer compaction etc. resulting from increased engine changes, accessory loading, etc. The result allows the aircraft to be loaded with in the permissible/specified weight and balance criteria and the aircraft handling characteristics remain in the safe controllable range. Al, you can add a lot more to this with just good common sense. prp __________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from this list please send mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ____________________________________________________________ T O P I C A -- Learn More.
