Bruce, An O-200 is a good idea if you're as fat as I am (270 lb.). But if you are, you'll soon be grounded like I am. (I'm working on it with expectation of success by summer.) Peddles are OK but are ONLY important if you're building time for a flying career. Well designed aircraft fly just fine with little or no rudder input. Coupes are very well designed in this respect. Metal wings are to be avoided. They add 40 lb. and make it more difficult to inspect the wings for corrosion or damage. With fabric, you can take the skin off every 20-30 years and see what's inside. Having said that, I wouldn't pass up a good Coupe at a good price just because it had metal covered wings. See the articles at http://members.home.net/ed-ercoupe/ for Pre-Purchase Inspection, Why Buy a Coupe, Annual Inspection Checklist and a link to the Coupe FAQ all of which I wrote a few years back. I'm not an "expert" but I collected the information from experts.
