Paul:

Regarding radios, there are several things to take into consideration.
1. the noisy cockpit environment of the Ercoupe (>98dbc) requires a
great deal of undistorted audio output. Most aircraft radios use the
transmitting modulator devices as audio output devices on receive,
consequently, to lower the output power, the less undistorted receive
availability.

2. When using an intercom with a modern headset and an in-panel radio
it is wise to make sure that the microphone bias for the electret
microphone is isolated from the push to talk voltage. if it is not when
you push to talk, the microphone output drops considerably, causing weak
modulation, poor sidetone in the headset, and reduction in overall
communication ability.

3. just a few of the reasons to make an in depth examination of all the
devices in your airplane that you are going to want to perform in
harmony.
