The main spar is a beam made of a upper and lower spar cap and a very thin sheet of metal between them. The spar cap is the strength of the spar. The thin sheet of metal between the spar caps them has no strength to speak off. I think the spar caps are corroiding from the inside out. You will see small little bumps on the outside of the spar caps. They don't look that bad from the outside, but when you take them apart there is a lot more corrosion inside. As I stated before, we took apart spars that looked good and found corrosion inside. This is why I think all or most of the spar caps are bad and the whole spar should be replaced. The rivets that hold the rear spar to the center section are corroiding. These should be replaced also. If you replace the main spars and put on new attachment points on the rear spars we will have good safe planes for another 50 years.
