Another area for corrosion that's frequently overlooked is
the rear or false spar.

On both the wings I just recovered I found corrosion that necessitated
taking the stiffener off and cleaning the corrosion out, treating it,
then riveting it back together.

In addition, the interior of the ailerons can be real scary.  I replaced
the
inboard aluminum stiffener where the aileron push rod attaches on both
ailerons. The steel piece that the push rod is bolted to will trap mud
inside it and rust from the inside out. It is bell shaped and the pushrod
itself hides the crap that builds up.

I wound up opening both ailerons up and fixing the corrosion. You can't
see
the
interior without taking the push rod loose and looking inside with a bore
scope.
