Warren: Quite an undertaking. As I mentioned when this first came up, I
have attempted to do this with the McCulloch J-2 and got worn out pretty
quick. I hate to sound like a Fascist, but I think the FAA should require
renewal of the a/c registrations every few years, or send out a
questionaire. I'll bet 20% of the registered aircraft aren't there any
more. When I was looking at the J-2 registrations, I noted a large number
hadn't had the registrations changed in 20 or more years. I also found a
number of them appeared on the NTSB database in what would appear to be
total destruction crashes. Now you would think that the NTSB would let
the
FAA know when a total destruction crash occurred so the FAA could
de-register the aircraft. I have observed that government seldom does for
itself, it always requires that we do for them. Example, I have never
lived
in a state that sent out notices that your drivers license was about to
expire. With a 5 year cycle, who notices? Strangely, they do send out
notices about car and trailer tags. Nothing like consistency. Oh well, I
digress...

I have Forney F1-A s/n 5745 which is now registered as N57Q changed from
N3045G in 1963 when it was rebuilt using parts from 415C s/n 2868 which I
assume was never returned to service.

My neighbor, Hyland F. Kimball has a Forney F-1 s/n 5635 N7520C still
flying.

I also have 2 wrecked 415's I sort of inherited when I moved to this
airpark. One has so little remaining I can't tell the N or serial number.
The other was N3536H which is still registered and I will take care of
having it unregistered. Both were bought as wrecks by a deceased resident
who had a flying one, which his son now owns.

Dick in Columbus NM.
