          Anthony.

I have used auto fuel for some time. When I had my 1963 C-172 I
used hundreds of gallons with no problems. My present coupe has also
been run on mogas, but I'm not so sure about the results. This plane
suffers from what appears to be carb ice. Just today my carb ice gauge
arrived. Of course it doesn't fit the carb. I think I can make it fit
with a little work. The point being, it may be partially auto fuel that
is making the ice problem worse. I have made a warm air duct with a shut
off, to introduce some warm air before the carb intake. Hopefully I will
be able to watch the gauge and regulate the temperature and pevent carb
ice. I'll start with 100LL, if that's OK I'll go back to mogas and see
how it works. Should be OK. These engines should run well on mogas as
they are low compression [6.5:1] and only require 80 octane fuel. A
little 100LL once every 2 or 3 tank fulls will keep valve seats in good
shape a little longer. I believe 100LL is not low lead but contains 5
times the lead of 80-87. So 1/5 mixture should give you all the lead
you need at a lot less money.
