Coupers;
Are we reading more into this then is really there ? When the first
announcements were published about the Sport PILOT proposal and those
aircraft that were listed as being within the given parameters, and the
415C
being one of those that this new PILOT classification would be permitted
to
operate under the given guidelines.
As I read this, it is telling me that this is all the requirements that
the
proposed Sport PILOT must abide by, not a requirement for us to change the
classifications of the aircraft we fly as lisenced pilots.
How this will ever be policed is beyond me. I really can't see additional
line checks whenever we touch down at a visiting field.
Through the prop wash that takes place at the local field I see this as a
boon the retired cropduster who because of minor health problems cannot
pass
the required medicals and those others with the love of flying and have a
zillion hours in their logs but cannot legally get in that left hand seat.
Then again maybe I'm all wet and am reading into this "wishful
thinking",,,,,hope not

Yes there will be limitations I am sure. But keep in
mind that IF they would approve the 415C for the Sport
Pilot clasification that would not automatically move all
415C's into this clasification. It would have to be up to
the owner to do this. It would just mean that if you owned
a 415C you would be able to move it into this clasification
if you wanted to.

<< I’m more concerned with other limitations that may be placed on our
type
of
aircraft. Wouldn’t having the sport pilot classification result in our
having to report our entering class D and above airspace before our
flights?
What about traveling cross country. I understand that there are some
limitations on ultralights that currently don’t affect us. Also, what
about
night flying? I’ve heard there are limitations on that. Would the Sport
Pilot category be something some aircraft could be part of and not others?
Or is it something all of us would have to conform to. I could see the
FAA
having a lot of fun trying to determine who is or isn’t a sport pilot if
two
planes that look identical are classified differently. I’m not jabbing at
what’s been said, I’m just really curious about these issues.
