Hi All
 Watch out for flying broomsticks.
I think I have now finished my complete overhaul on my Alon A2A Aircoupe.
I last flew it a year ago (actually on 10th November 2000 so maybe the
following quote applies.
"The least experienced press on while the more experienced pilots turn
back to join the most experienced, who never left the ground in the first
place"
This quote is of course regarding pressing on into bad weather, but quite
good.
In fact as a last bit of overhaul effort this morning I paint stripped
three round wing inspection plates so that I would have spares in case I
detected any corrosion around the rivet heads on them , I am going to
de-rivet them and renew the rivets to be sure there will be no corrosion
after painting.
And so "I never left the ground" for a whole year now, this is only
because I have often refused a flight with a pal in a Cessna 172, why fly
in a 172 when I can work on my Aircoupe, much more pleasure in that I
think.
I went to the shippers on Monday to check out the cost and logistics of
sending the Aircoupe to Oregon, They deliver the container and I get as
many days as I wish to load it (I have estimated five days) then it goes
by road to the nearest rail depot, by rail to Felixtowe (on our south
eastern coast, about 200 miles) then by ship to Montreal followed by a
rail trip to Tacoma and road to Puyallup which is where I will re-assemble
it ready to fly down to Florence where it will be hangared with another
pal who has a magnificent hangar and is a Mooney Cadet owner. Hope it all
goes smoothly, it did in 1995 when I shipped my Cadet to Virginia.
I am hoping to complete this exercise before Christmas.
Best wishes to all and happy Aircoupe/Ercoupe flying.
Dave Vernon
P.S. All I need now is the decals to complete the job!
