I have now joined the ranks of Ercoupers. I picked up my Forney F-1 and
got checked out in it today!
One question I have (of many more to come I'm sure) is what does one
normally see for an RPM with the throttle all the way back at idle. I show
about 800+ RPM, and I found myself riding the breaks while taxiing to keep
it slow.
Can an A&P play with the idle RPM like one can do on a car?

Well, yes. BUT, if you idle a baby Continental much below 800 RPMs, things

tend to get awfully 'lumpy' (and thus stressful on things like motor
mounts). Also,
the plugs develop an exasperating tendency to load up unless you lean VERY
aggressively at taxi.

I had this problem initially.

What I found was that I was simply starting out too fast. Neither of my
coupes
tends to accelerate at 800RPM, but if you're going too fast, you keep
going too
fast. It just doesn't take much to get these little bugs to start taxiing.
Much less
than, say, a 172 or Cherokee.

Don't 'ride' the brakes, but rather give them a good jab to get down to a
proper
taxi speed. Generally, you will probably find that you stay there.
