Glen, just joined your new coupe list. :) I'm "really" looking forward to topic related postings. Just completed restorations on all three of my 66 Alon's fuel tanks. I had a half dozen rivets that were weeping fuel. I sealed the tanks from the outside using a product called miracle paint. This weekend I'll be reinstalling the wing gap covers and gear fairings and refueling the plane. My fingers are crossed that this stuff will perform as advertised. After a quick oil change I hope to get her airborne some time Sunday.
Noticed in cleaning up the underside of the wing gap seals that there were remnants of a thick rubberized tape used on each edge to, I assume, prevent the paint from getting scratched up. I found some replacement tape at home depot in the electrical area that works nicely as a replacement. Apparently this stuff is made thick to replace the outer plastic sheathing you loose when you splice together outdoor extension cords and alike. Like the time I cut the cord using my hedge trimmer. Ooops... Anyway if anyone would like to replace the gap seal tape it's only $4 for a roll at the depot. On another note, at some point over the past 30 years someone removed the flange on my gas caps and turned the air inlet around to the back. As you may have guessed, if you climb out step, gas syphons out the air inlet. Any idea why someone would have done this? Obviously the idea was to slightly pressurize the tanks, not create a vacuum. If anyone has a good set of gas caps, I'm interested. Not the big nasty thermos looking ones from Univar though. -- Bill DuCharme N6554Q __________________________________________________________________________ ______ To unsubscribe from this list please send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] _____________________________________________________________ Get your favorite topic delivered daily. http://www.topica.com/t/11
