Well group, I just got an ass chewing from someone that I considered
a friend of mine. Something to the tune of "I'm sorry I ever knew you,
and I'd never fly in the same plane as you." These are harsh words
indeed, but truly point out a problem.
First, let me say that I'd never in my life make a suggestion that
would promote unsafe flying if I truly believed that anyone, anywhere
would actually believe it. Case in point, my suggestion to put sawdust
into the crank of a leaking engine. Do any of you out there actually
believe that someone would be so naive or foolish to do such a thing?
No. What then was the harm?
This cat & dog thing started when someone posted a joke. We were
then informed that this site was not for jokes. It escalated when
someone mistakenly passed a virus to the site. Even though he
apologized, he was thoroughly raked over the coals for it. It seems as
though we've all become so thin skinned, and gun shy that the slightest
provocation gets us going. Some are moved to build upon the
controversy, others are moved to squish it, and both camps with equal
gusto. And, on both fronts, we are acting like fools. When faced with
provocation, those with a quick delete finger, and tolerance are the
only intelligent ones out there.
It's foolish for me to purposefully attack those who are so
intolerant. It's foolish for the intolerant to leave the list, or start
their own just because they think I and others like me are fools.
Beneath it all, this list serves an important purpose. The sharing of
ideas and information. I myself have benefited from the list. I doubt
that anyone out there has not. I also believe that all a second list
will do is thin the gene pool, and we'll all find ourselves monitoring
two lists rather than one. I've heard most say they would monitor both,
so what's been gained.
My suggestion is this. I will personally agree to moderate myself.
I will stick more to the subject at hand, and all in all try not to be
as big a Jack Ass. Some of the other stooges out there might be willing
to do the same. Those of you on the other end of the scale try not to
be so thin skinned when something doesn't quite agree with your idea of
right and wrong. We could possibly find that we could live in restless
harmony after all.
Lastly, I want to make up with "my friend". Friends are hard enough
to come by. I can't afford to lose any. I'll be airborne again soon.
Let's go fly together. After all, you've seen the other side of me. It
wasn't so bad was it?Larry __________________________________________________________________________ ______ To unsubscribe from this list please send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] _____________________________________________________________ Get your favorite topic delivered daily. http://www.topica.com/t/11
