[Note: I'm going to send this same copy, individually, to both lists.
I'm NOT going to cross-post it (to both lists at once) because
that would cause the list owners untold grief when replies
began to come from people who were not subscribed to
both lists. I'm going to STRONGLY suggest that anybody
who wants to respond to both lists respond INDIVIDUALLY
on each of the lists. If you don't fully understand why, please
just trust me that it will make a mess if you send a single e-mail
to both lists, and then somebody hits 'reply all.' Better yet, if
you want to participate in what I've suggested, reply to me personally.
If you don't, then be quiet and let us get some work done and we'll
get back to you.]

Folks, we need to find our way out of this snake-wrassle we've
gotten ourselves into. I think there are reasons for why we're in it,
and that the primary one is structural. We've out-grown the
space we're living in, and as we've seen, some folks do better
than others when they feel crowded or when they feel their
time is being wasted.

A couple of solutions have been tried on. Glen has started a
second list that appears to have gotten a few feathers ruffled,
not the least of which are his own. David has started
a local netnews group. Both efforts are well-intentioned. Neither
is clearly THE solution. Both will lead to fragmentation of the
Ercoupe online community. There will be at least three archives
to wade through to find tidbits.

I think the solution is going to have to be structural. On one
hand we need to divide up content and provide structured
spaces for technical, social, and other content so that neither
steps on the toes of the others. And it would be nice if
it was all in one place which was accepted as 'the place
to be' for Ercoupe discussions online. I truly believe that this
is doable.

So I'm going to suggest that a set of people who are interested
in finding a REAL solution set up an e-mail ring and discuss it
like civilized people. I'll volunteer to host the alias on my mail
server. If you want to talk it over, send me e-mail, and I'll add
you to the alias and tell you what it is.

My rules will be very simple. You'll conduct your part of the
discussion in a respectful manner which assumes that the people
on the other end are decent human beings. Name-calling, blaming
and that kind of stuff will result in your being shown the door.

I want people who are serious about putting together a proposal
which will result in something that works for everybody, in one place.
We want to build on what we already have, not start over.
