Hi Larry:  Thanks for the response.  When I got my initial checkout, (I 
bought the coupe without even flying it) my instructor hadn't flown one 
either.  He read the POH and decided that "it could too stall and spin".
He 
tried a dive and full power climb to "stall".  Scared me to death.  As I 
recall, the plane actually hung for a moment before it slid backwards.
That 
was over 30 years ago so maybe it is just my overactive memory recalling 
something that can't really happen.  I got my Private checkout in my
coupe.  
I don't think the inspector had ever flown one.  He really gave the
airplane 
the once over before we went flying.  The ride lasted all of .6 hr.  He
was 
really glad to get out.
