Hi Gene,
I can give you three here on the left coast of Oregon. Salem has a
nice
second story restaurant overlooking the flight line. Good food and
service with moderate prices.
A little farther South, at Albany there is an 'off field'
restaurant
that has a taxiway right up to the building, Chinese/American menu. It
used to be one of our regular 'hang-outs' until it changed hands and the
service and food really was the 'pits'. I just heard that they folded
and it went back to the old management again so by now it should be
really good again. Tell David, the manager that you belong to the
Ercoupe Owners Club and you'll get excellent 'personallized' service. He
might even go put on his "OREGON ERCOUPE ERFORCE" (OEE) cap for you or
show you his OEE coffee mug. Also, there is a Motel right next door.
A little farther South is Cottage Grove, it also has a nice
restaurant
(a little fancier) that is 'off-field' but has a taxi-way to the parking
ramp that has room for about a dozen planes or so and then you just walk
across the street and into the "Best Western" Motel and Restaurant
complex. We also used to hang-out there a lot, but some outfit in
California bought it and they started closing at 2:00pm on Sundays. So,
we stopped going there for our fly-ins and started going up north to
either Albany or Salem. I haven't checked it out for a while so I don't
know if it's changed again but other than Sundays it should still be
fine.
All three of these are just off I-5 freeway and easy to spot from
the
air. There is only about 90 miles or so from the north one (Salem) to
the South one (Cottage Grove). So you could pick any one of the three
according to the distance on that leg of your trip and how much farther
you wanted to fly before stopping.
Albany has fuel in a truck, the other two are at the pump. You
might
check by radio or ahead of time to see what octane fuel is available.
I'm stc'd for mo-gas so I rarely buy fuel at FBO's. (I 'think' Salem and
CG have 80 and 100, not sure what Albany has.)
The Municipal Airport at Eugene has a very nice restaurant and
lounge
if you stop overnight, but there isn't a motel close, just accessible by
taxi service.
Farther South is Roseburg, no restaurant 'near' but if you want to
walk
a couple of blocks there are two or three. Even farther South is
Medford, I've never been in there but it has airline service so there
might be a restaurant there also.
Good Luck and have a great 2K mile trip in Y2K.
