I will weigh in on this, as I have given it much thought. The original list was all encompassing, talk about ercoupes.
This worked well. The problem is that some people want to use the list for tech only, some want to use it for hangar talk. I think that there should be room for both. The problem with hangar talk is that it is not too hard to keep the traffic down when it is 50 people, but when it is 300, it is basically inevitable that there will be trivial arguments, off topic postings etc. When despite my best efforts to referee the open list we had very talented people leaving it became clear we need a moderated area. But I DIDNT want to lose the ability to say, Hey anyone in texas come together this weekend and fly. That is/was a very important part of having a community of people connected around a love of flying ercoupes. I feel this solution allows us to have both. It is not a renegade group, I created both lists and they are tied together to be complementary. It's rather simple. If you want a tech question answered, post it to the coupers-tech list. If you want to ask anything other then tech but about ercoupes, use the coupers list. If you think that the posting is of interest to both groups, post it to both. As far as making one list subordinate to the other, unfortunately there is no good way to do that right now.
