Ed (and all you coupers), I've been lurking on the list for awhile and enjoy the ramblings, tips, and flying experience. My dad, who passed away in 1988, had a couple of Ercoupes back in the late 1950's that he put to good use as a traveling fabric salesman on the east coast. He even stuffed a folding Vespa scooter into the baggage area for quick jaunts to his buyer's warehouses. Then times got tough and he sold the plane before I was born. It wasn't until the 1960's, when I was growing up, that the Coupe bug bit him again. Well you know what happened, he bought a nice late model Aircoupe and was back in the air again! Of course I was thrilled because I got to be the co-pilot and that plane sure was fun. It had the sliding canopy and I remember the exhilaration of an open top 'convertable' while flying at 100 mph around the north Georgia countryside. Some of my co-pilot duties included polishing and waxing the coupe, cleaning the windows, and handing him the log book. But I got to fly the plane and I guess I was hit by the bug too. In fact I logged quite a few hours before he sold it. Since I was about 10 or 12 years old, I wasn't quite ready to solo or anything. Ever since, I've always wanted to complete my private pilot's license and now I'm seriously looking for a nice 'coupe. Probably a 415 unless I can find a Forney or Alon in my price range. Anyway, I just wanted to say "Hello," to all you coupers and to give Ed a little encouragement. Ed, your experience and wisdom is very important to hopeful coupers like me, so do the best you can! And take it a day at a time--I know you'll be back up soon.
