I think the conversion will be easy. I was just coming up a
little short on the cables. However, I think I got that one
worked out.
The pedals are connected to the original rudder cables by a
set of extension cables. There is a separator block added
about three foot back from the bell crank. This isn't shown
in the original drawings, (so I removed it). That appears to
allow for some addition cable. It also allows for the cables
to cross in the tail cone.
So the steps for converting are:
Remove the separator block (There should be just one
about 3/4 back in the tail section, when you are finished).
The extension cables are attached to the original
cables over the bell crank. Remove the left rudder
cable and attach it to the RIGHT side of the bell
crank (Looks backwards, but it is correct). Remove the
right rudder cable and attach it to the LEFT side of the
bell crank.
The right side of the bell crank has a tight fit for the
cable bolts, due to the control rod from the front's attaching
point. You may need to remove the bell cranks center bolt
to allow the arms to move free and get the bolts into
place. (I found that you must insert the screws from the
bottom to the top. The nut is on the top).
All that is left do complete the conversion is to remove
the pedal hardware. On mine this also included the brake
pedal. I used the drawings to build another.
I've got everything connected, except the rear section. That will
go on today. Harry made a point about the rear bell crank, It
could be installed backwards. I'll need to check mine, it may be
backwards. Most of the stuff I've found back there was rigged
incorrectly. The elevator control rod was in the wrong hole.
Hope this helps.
