Warren when you land in a strong crosswind you can get some bounce if your on one wheel. I fly all over the country and some times I have to land and take off in strong crosswinds. The old gear is much better. The spring gear is just that springy. As far as the wings of a Alon being better, they just are. The spar caps where zined when built and the metal work is the best from the Alon factory. When you look at alot of metal jobs on old coupes you will not find any as good as a Alons. I like the rear window because we do alot of formation flying and I can see the other planes better. You can also look around more in the pattern. I don't care about the heat, I'll just open the conopy. Yes the Alon is 20 years newer and it has over 100 newer things on it. That is why the Alon is a better plane. The cost is more to start, but in the long run it is alot cheaper to own a Alon. The old 415's you have to tinker with all the time and that ads up to big money. New tanks, new pump, new this, new that all the time. When I was young that was alot of fun. Now that I'm older I like to put on 300-500 hours on a plane with out working on it. The old 415's are like Harley bikes and the Alon's and M10 are like Hondas. When your young you like to work on the Harley's and when you get older you just want to ride. After 7000 of Ercoupe time, flying over 25 of them and owning 7 of them. I still think the Alon A-2 is the best one ever built. gene
