You need a small hydrometer, as A/C batteries have less fluid above the

price.  Also, the specific gravity of A/C electrolyte is slightly higher

a car battery, maybe 1.280 or so, IIRC.  So you can't use the gizmo with
the 
pretty colored balls from Pep Boys.
