The screen is in a protuberance on the back of the engine, at the bottom
of the crank-case. It's most visible from the right side. About the size
of a
small tomato paste can, it has a fat fitting at the back into which the
oil
temperature gauge's capillary tube disappears.

Don't go undoing things here unless you have the right replacement crush
gaskets to put it back together. Also, it's somewhat easy to hose up that
little capillary tube or the bulb if you're having a klutzy day.

Anyway, there are a bunch of books on how to change your airplane oil
and virtually all of them talk about how to deal with the screen.
Alternatively,
you can pay an A&P to supervise you through the process one time (buy
yourself a set of safety wire pliers first).
