Howdy, Coupers.

Today was just super for flying, so I did. Along with Geoff Roberts, Dick
Pardee and the "usual suspects" in the Oregon Ercoupe Erforce. Geoff
and I got off early enough to stop at Independence. The FBO (John Hsu,
who used to own a `coupe and wishes he did again) had not gotten Dick's
new phone number since he moved onto the field there, so his wife had to
call another Ercouper to get it! So not only did I get to talk to Dick,
but
they got their records updated.

We decided to make it a flight of two going to Albany. Dick flew lead.
Now, it is not a real good idea having the lighter airplane do lead. It
is
faster, and you have a harder time catching up. 29H ain't all that
strong.

Got to Albany just as the "Green Machine" pulled into the parking lot.
Always good to see Our Fearless Leader, Bob Saville. With three `coupes
on the line, it was a good time for pictures!

Went on into the restaurant. It has had a return of the old management,
so
the service was top notch. He even came out personally and pulled another
table when yet another twin-tailed tigar came in. All in all, 7 persons
graced
the sign-in. Bob's got the names because there is a contest going on.

Returning to Independence, Geoff took his old steed. He had restored
Dick's
Ercoupe before selling it to him, so Dick let him drive. When we got back
to
Independence, I "gave John the business." Filled up with gas - only a $27
hamberger this time; if you don't count insurance, annual, medical, yada,
yada...

Geoff looked so good I let him drive 29H home. Pearson can be a bit
tricky.
You are supposed to land the way they are at Portland International (PDX).
But the winds, and the guy getting ready to take off, favored to the west.
Geoff did his usual supurb landing - he is softer than that Cessna-driving
flight instructor that I took my last biannual from!

And the milestone? Today I logged my four hundredth hour total time. It
only
took me a month and a half shy of 25 years flying. And got in landing
number
one thousand. You learn to savor these moments. See you in the skys!

       Percy in Portland
