Spook,

    As with the written, the check ride is a piece of cake as long as
you're ready
for it.  I don't suspect your instructor will sign you off if you aren't.
I've also
found that if you get the smallest, tightest airplane you can find to do
the check
ride in, the inspector won't be inclined to drag it out toooo looong.
