After two weeks of MISERABLE weather in NJ, today was finally a day where both it and I were flyable.
The right fuel drain was draining slow, so we pulled it (quick!) and (quicker!) slipped in a 1/8 NPT brass plug. The drain fitting was gunked up with something greenish that can best be described as 'puree of frog.' Nothing seemed to fall into the clean pail from the strainer, so it seems that whatever it was was localized in the quick drain fitting, not a generalized scudging up of the region. Perhaps a nice mix of brass oxidation, tiedown grass, and generalized tank gunk. Anyway, we had a nice 10,000 foot ceiling of stratus, unbelivably smooth clear air under it, and at least one day to fly. I gave another Ercoupe ride to Alex, our 17-year old 200-hour 'airport kid.' Sure is pleasant to be left-seat passenger with a real good pilot at the controls. And this young man is *good*. 80 of his hours are in the J3, and the Coupe makes guys like that look even better. Stowed the plane, hung out for a bit, and was glad I did as we were visited by a pristine Fairchild 24. So much for that. Rest of the weekend is forecast lousy.
