It dawned lovely and clear (with promise of not-so-clear later), so
06H and I decided to fly down to Millville, NJ (MIV). We hadn't
been there before, and about an hour out and back seemed right
for the day. Actually, it's the longest journey we've had since
coming home from Columbus.

I'd hoped maybe to see George there, but it was not to be.

Still, the omelette was great, and coming back to the tie-downs,
I spotted N99248. Frank Mazza and his wife were in the FBO.
Frank rebuilt 248 after the prior owner skidded it in on the nose
bowl. He has an O-200 in it. He also re-did the panel and paint,
and it looks real good. I told him about us, and hope to see him
join us here soon.

It was a bit of a scud-run past Trenton, in the tiny little corridor
between the Philly Class B and alert area A220. Got a mite
cold on the way down at 4500 feet. Had quite a struggle getting
the leather jacket on while concentrating on not getting wildly
off course or losing my hat in the slipstream.

Came back to the home airport, and Mike, the CFI who gave me my last
BFR and I made like Laurel and Hardy in 06H. I found out how
hard it is to fly from the right seat when you aren't used to it. Mike
found out how challenging a Coupe can be to land after you've
been flying big Fokkers for a couple of months and C172s for
a few years before that. He got better, as did I, but I still need
a lot of work before I can learn to land reliably from the right.

It was encouraging to see that EXACTLY the same things happened
to him as happened to me on my first Coupe flight. A bit of trouble
judging the flare and a tendency to over-do everything in pitch and
to be too tentative in roll.
