Hi all,
I got to look at the Ercoupe today. The exhuast has been hitting the
cowling on the front right of the exit pipe. There is definitely some fresh
chattering on there. It is also vibrating up against the nose gear strut,
and up against the crimps that stick out where the firewall is wrapped
around the edge of the fuselage. Seperation is 1.25" between bottom of cowl
and fuselage, .5" around exhaust pipe, and .25" around nose gear. This
brings up something I noticed - it looks like there might be a nutplate
there in the bottom of the fuselage just aft of the firewall, or maybe it is
just a drain hole. If the bottom cowl is supposed to be attached right
there then somebody before me put it on there and didn't realize it as there
is no screw hole in the cowl piece. This would explain why the bottom cowl
is so floppy and why it has worn a hole the size of a dime in the cowl on a
couple of those crimps. Also, I have now tried coordinating the turns
better and it does shake somewhat less so perhaps the rudder is vibrating
too. Glen Ward
